Liam Delap made a strong impression last season with 12 goals in his first Premier League appearance, despite failing to help Ipswich Town stay in the league. Immediately after joining The Blues, he immediately left his mark at the FIFA Club World Cup with an assist in his debut match and the first goal for Chelsea in the match against ES Tunis.
Having worked with Delap at the England U21 team, Ashley Cole understands his former student very well. Cole shared about Delap's talent: "I have worked with Liam Delap for about two years. At the start of the tournament, we had him in the squad and he was influential in qualifying matches.
He is a great guy, enthusiastic and always wants to learn. He wants to go to the next level and now he has the tools to do it.
The former left-back of the England team, on the other hand, also warned Chelsea not to put too much pressure on the new striker. Because being a striker at The Blues has never been easy, when the failed example of Lukaku, Morata or Higuain was still there.
Cole continued: I think in todays era, were a bit strict with young players. They need time to develop and do not need to be judged. He needs more time.
It will take time for him to adapt to the way Chelsea want to play. Hopefully he will integrate quickly, but I think sometimes we have to restrain a little. He is just a young player.
