Chelsea started not as expected under coach Xabi Alonso. They started the pre-season stage with a 6-4 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers, but the defense conceding 4 goals early raised questions.
Those concerns continued to appear in the 1-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, even though Chelsea played with more men almost the entire second half after Kevin Danso received a red card.
The hope of regaining stability in the match against Juventus also did not come true. Edon Zhegrova's goal in the 68th minute caused Chelsea to suffer their second consecutive defeat.
They will continue their Asian tour with a confrontation with AC Milan in Indonesia. Chelsea has a basis to be confident when looking back at their head-to-head record with Milan. In the most recent meeting in August last year, the Premier League representative won 4-1 thanks to a double by Liam Delap in the second half.
On the other side, AC Milan is also beginning a new era under Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese coach was appointed to replace Massimiliano Allegri, who only helped the team finish fifth in Serie A last season.
Amorim started his term with a 2-2 draw against Celtic, in which Milan was down 2 goals after the first half. In the friendly match with Inter, Rossoneri once again had to reverse the score to get a draw.
The first 2 matches have not really brought positive signals for Amorim. Therefore, defeating Chelsea will be an important boost for Milan before they finish the preparation phase with a confrontation with Manchester United.
