Coach Enzo Maresca's team began the preparation process for the 2026-2027 season with a 1-1 draw against Inter Milan in early August, before losing 1-3 in a penalty shootout.
After that, Man City had their first victory under new head coach Enzo Maresca when defeating K-League All-Stars 3-1.
The Citizens will close the pre-season preparation process with a confrontation with Atletico Madrid, before focusing on the English Super Cup match with Arsenal on August 16.
Maresca's team has made four signings this summer. The most notable is the deal with Elliot Anderson, who joined from Nottingham Forest with a very high transfer fee.
On the other side, Atletico Madrid enters the match after a 1-2 defeat to Man United in the Snapdragon Cup last weekend. Before entering the 2026-2027 La Liga campaign with a home match against Malaga, Atletico will successively face Man City and Marseille.
Atletico has made three notable signings this summer, including Lee Kang-in, Morten Hjulmand and Alejandro Grimaldo. Atletico also kept Julian Alvarez in the face of strong interest from Barcelona. The Argentine striker seems to continue to stick with the capital team for at least another season.
