Interestingly, after ending the 2023-2024 Champions League with a final against a German club, Real Madrid will start the new season also against a Bundesliga representative.
Last season, on their way to a 15th European crown, Real Madrid won five and drew two against German sides, including a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the final.
But against Stuttgart, they will play at home at the Bernabeu, having prepared with a 2-0 win over Real Sociedad in La Liga last weekend. With injury concerns gradually easing, Los Blancos are confident of extending their unbeaten record in home Champions League matches that stretches back to April 2022 (W10 D3).
Even more encouragingly, Real have lost just one of their last 23 home Champions League games against German opposition – 3-4 to Schalke in March 2015 (W17 D5).
For Stuttgart, this is their first appearance in the Champions League since the 2009-2010 season. They have not won in 4 encounters with Spanish opponents (D2, L2).
Meeting Real Madrid will be the start of a scary start for Stuttgart, who will then face Juventus and Paris Saint Germain. The motivation is that they will arrive in Spain after scoring 6 goals in their last 2 Bundesliga games (W1 L1).
Saturday's 3-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach was Stuttgart's first Bundesliga win of the season, but they have had an unimpressive away record in Europe's top flight (W2 D3 L6).
