Recently, goalkeeper of Vietnamese origin Filip Nguyen has often posted photos and statuses expressing his desire to play for the Vietnam national team. The goalkeeper born in 1992 also regularly spends time following and cheering on coach Park Hang-seo and his team in many tournaments.
Most recently, Filip Nguyen announced good news about the process of applying for Vietnamese citizenship on his personal Facebook page. The status line was written by the Vietnamese-Czech goalkeeper on the photo with a confirmation signature.
Filip Nguyen said he had completed the necessary procedures and was waiting for the competent authorities to approve the documents. The 27-year-old goalkeeper affirmed that he is eager to contribute to his hometown team and dreams of wearing a red flag with a yellow star.
Slovan Liberec's goalkeeper wrote: "With the help of my beloved father, I submitted my application for Vietnamese citizenship. My documents are complete according to the provisions of Vietnamese law. Currently, I am just waiting for the opinions and approval of competent authorities to accept my application".
"If so, I could wear a red flag with a yellow star of Vietnam! Please come with me to look forward to this joy and hope it will come soon so that I have the opportunity to fulfill my dream and desire to contribute to the Fatherland of the Fatherland!, Filip Nguyen wrote on his fanpage.
Shortly after posting the announcement, Filip Nguyen received an enthusiastic response from fans. Most fans sent their congratulations, along with the expectation that the 27-year-old goalkeeper will help the Vietnamese team become stronger.
Notably, striker Mac Hong Quan - Filip Nguyen's close friend commented in Czech: "When will I see you play here?". Immediately, the best goalkeeper of the Czech National Championship replied "I don't know..." with a smile icon.
Mac Hong Quan and Filip Nguyen used to practice together at the Sparta Praha training center - a famous football team in the Czech Republic. Although the former striker of the Vietnam national team has been playing in the V.League for a long time, the two still maintain a close friendship.
In May, the player from the Quang Ninh Coal team once evaluated his former teammate, saying: "Filip confided to me that he wanted to return to play for the Vietnam national team. Last year, there was also a lot of information that he could be called up to the Czech national team, but I think Filip wants to contribute here and he decided that way. That is his right."
"We talked a lot. I also talked about the characteristics of football as well as life in Vietnam. He is learning Vietnamese and may get used to it as well. I think he has also learned and known about Dang Van Lam. If there are 2 goalkeepers of such class, it will be very good for the Vietnam team," said Mac Hong Quan.
Currently, both the Vietnam Football Federation and coach Park Hang-seo are trying to create conditions for Filip Nguyen to be naturalized.
On October 10, the Vietnam team will have the second match in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Malaysia. The 27-year-old goalkeeper can completely participate in the above match if the naturalization application review process goes smoothly.
