After parting ways with Paris St Germain to join Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappe left France to start a new life in Spain. However, the captain of the French national team has not severed ties with his home country's football.
According to Ouest France, the 25-year-old player will become the largest shareholder of the Ligue 2 team SM Caen, managed by MD. Mbappe will invest nearly 20 million Euros to buy 80% of the shares of the American investment group Oaktree.
Pierre Antoine Capton - the current president of the team - owns the remaining 20%. Part of the money Mbappe invests to buy back will be used to pay off the club's existing debt.
Ziad Hammoud, the current head of Mbappe's brand image group, will be appointed by Mbappe and his mother Fayza Lamari as the new president of Caen.
Mbappe's mother had almost negotiated for Mbappe to move to Caen a few years ago, but instead, they chose AS Monaco.
Mbappe's investment in Caen is naturally the next step in his brand, and perhaps it is no surprise that he is following in the footsteps of David Beckham by buying a club.
Mbappe becomes one of the youngest to own a professional football club.
Not many players take over a club while still playing. Of course, with Mbappe, he will not be heavily involved in daily operations while he is busy training, playing, and seeking success with Real Madrid.
Mbappe is still on vacation after playing at EURO 2024. He debuted for Real Madrid on July 16.
According to the plan, he will join Real Madrid on August 6 and will have about a week to prepare for the UEFA Super Cup match against Atalanta.
Real Madrid is currently in training camp in the USA.
