Lionel Messi has officially received the Golden Boot for the top scorer in Europe last season. This is the 6th time he has won the European Golden Shoes and is also the first person to win this award in 3 consecutive seasons, an achievement that no one has achieved in history.
In La Liga last season, Lionel Messi scored 36 goals. He has won the European Golden Shoe race, scoring three goals more than Kylian Mbappe. However, it was not until October 16, after the national team training session, that the Argentine star was awarded this title.
The Messi honoring ceremony was held at Antigua Fabrica Estramm Hotel (Barcelona). The Barcelona striker brought his whole family to the event, including his wife Antonella Roccuzzo and two sons, Thiago and Mateo.
Although he has won the European Golden Boot award many times, Lionel Messi still could not hide his excitement and joy. Speaking to the media after receiving the award, Messi said: "I would like to thank Barcelona and my teammates, because without them, I would never have been able to win one of these noble awards. This is an award for everyone".
Up to now, Messi is holding the record for the player who has won the most European Golden Shoes (6 times - in the seasons 200910, 201112, 201212, 2013, 201612, 2017, 2017 2018, 20181, 2019). Ranked 2nd is rival Cristiano Ronaldo (4 times).
2011 2012 was Messi's most successful season when he won the European Golden Boot with 50 goals (in La Liga alone). So far, El Pulga has not been able to break this record.
