Lionel Messi has returned to Rosario (Argentina) to rest after finishing his journey with the Argentine national team at the 2026 World Cup as runner-up.
The private jet carrying Messi landed after a flight from Fort Lauderdale (USA). Although a large number of fans were present at the airport from dawn with flags and welcome banners, the 39-year-old superstar did not appear in public.
Messi and his wife Antonela Roccuzzo and three children quickly left the airport to return to the Funes residential area, near Rosario city. According to Argentine media, he will spend time with his family, including his father, Mr. Jorge Messi, who is being treated for illness.
Many fans were present hoping to meet their idol. A fan banner read: "Messi, you are a legend. Thank you for bringing joy to our hearts. The whole country loves you".
According to the plan, Messi will return to the US at the end of July or early August to join Inter Miami, preparing for the next phase of the MLS season.
Meanwhile, 15 members of the Argentine team returned to Buenos Aires on July 21 after the 2026 World Cup final.
Argentina lost to Spain 0-1 in extra time in the final match at MetLife Stadium (New Jersey), with a decisive goal by Ferran Torres.
This is the third time Messi has participated in a World Cup final, after the 2014 and 2022 tournaments. He finished the tournament with 8 goals, ranking second in the top scorer race.
