Overview
As usual, Sassuolo's latest success was inspired by long-time mainstay Domenico Berardi, who assisted one goal and scored two more in the 3-0 win over Atalanta.
Neroverdi beat La Dea in Serie A thanks to his impressive performance. After Berardi opened the scoring on the penalty spot in the first half, he continued to make his mark by passing to Andrea Pinamonti to score early in the second half. The Italian winger also completed his double with a third goal in the middle of the second half.
This result helped Sassuolo rise to eighth place with 16 points after 11 rounds, and their journey in Serie A this season is beyond initial expectations.
As a rookie returning to the Serie B championship last year, the Emilia team has revived strongly since being relegated in 2024. They still retain most of the important pillars.
Now, Fabio Grosso's team is preparing to meet a familiar opponent from the time when both teams were competing in the second division.
While Sassuolo won in March, Pisa won the first leg with a score of 3-1 just a few weeks before. Matteo Tramoni scored a double alongside Idrissa Toure's goal at Arena Garibaldi.
For the first time, Pisa will set foot in Serie A's Mapei Stadium, after spending more time adapting to Italy's top flight than the home team.
Pisa are currently in a dangerous situation and will strive for their first away win in Serie A in 34 years. So far, Alberto Gilardino's side have only had three draws and two defeats away from home this season.
Personnel situation
Although Sassuolo's Daniel Boloca has returned to normal training during the international break, Filippo Romagna, Laurs Skjellerup, Edoardo pieragnolo and Cristian Volpato are still sidelined.
This will not affect Grosso's starting lineup much, with the main options on the left wing being Josh Doig and Armand Lauriente. Both are expected to regain their positions from Fali Cande and Alieu Fadera.
In the match against Atalanta, Fadera joined the three-man attack with Pinamonti and Berardi. Notably, Berardi has made 409 appearances for Neroverdi and scored 264 goals.
Meanwhile, Pisa have only Stefano Moreo and M'Bala Nzola scored more than once, with a total of 8 goals in 13 matches this season, both in Serie A and Coppa Italia.
They will be paired up front, although Erik Meister could replace Fadera, who was absent from his tour in Angola last week.
Gilardino is yet to feature Calvin Stengs, Tomas Esteves and Mateus Lusuardi, while Inter Milan loaned player level 1 Akinsanmiro will suffer a personnel change in midfield.
Expected lineup:
Sassuolo: Muric, Walukiewicz, Idzes, Muharemovic, Doig, thorstvedt, Matic, Kone, Berardi, Pinamonti, Lauriente.
Pisa: Semper, Calabresi, Canestrelli, Caracciolo, Toure, Marin, Aebischer, Vural, Leris, Moreo, Nzola.
The match between Sassuolo and Pisa takes place at 2:45 am on November 25 (Vietnam time).
