In the 1-2 defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League semi-finals, Man United had 20 shots towards the opponent's goal. However, coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team only scored 1 goal from Bruno Fernandes' penalty kick.
Witnessing his poor form in attack, legend Paul Scholes believes that Man United's leadership should speed up the negotiation process to buy Jadon Sancho to improve his scoring ability.
"Man United only played really well in the first 15 minutes of the second half. If Man United had Sancho, they would have scored at least 1 goal in those finishing situations. United were the better team but the defensive system in the second goal was really shocking. Lindelof should look at himself, Paul Scholes told BT Sports
Dortmund accepted to let Sancho go if they received enough £108 million. Man United believes this is an unreasonable fee for the 20-year-old player. When the two sides had not reached an agreement, the Dortmund president announced that Sancho would extend his contract until 2023.
Sharing after the loss to Sevilla, coach Solskjaer said he had asked the leadership to buy more players to increase the depth of the squad. "It's going to be a strange summer. Having only 2 weeks off is a big challenge for Man United. I will ask the board to buy more players and most importantly, we need to improve our performance."
After losing to Sevilla, Manchester United became the first English team to lose 3 semi-final matches in a season.
