Manchester City star Erling Haaland has written his name into the history books with a rather strange statistic.
In the match at Chelsea Stadium on the evening of August 18 (Vietnam time), Haaland quickly affirmed his position as a "goal scoring machine". Since arriving at the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2022, he has hardly slowed down his scoring rate.
The Norwegian striker scored 63 goals in 66 Premier League matches for Man City . Against Chelsea, he increased his goal tally to 64 after opening the scoring in a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
Although Haaland has the ability to break records through his goals, his latest goal is something completely different.
In every team that coach Pep Guardiola has led, they are famous for their complex passing style, with players passing the ball all over the field.
However, it seems like Haaland has never needed or understood that.
In the match against Chelsea, Haaland set a... sad record for the fewest successful passes by a player in 90 minutes in a team coached by Guardiola, with only 3 times.
This statistic shows the opposite of Haaland's post-match comments from a completely new perspective.
“I want to participate in the match more, that's what Pep wants,” Haaland told Sky Sports. “But in matches like this, do I need to participate more? That's the million-dollar question. I want to get more assists and become a better player.”
Since arriving in Manchester, Haaland has a total of 13 assists in 67 Premier League matches - 8 in the 2022-2023 season and 5 in the 2023-2024 season.
However, with Guardiola at the helm, the 24-year-old will certainly want to increase his number of assists this season as he aims to become a more complete striker.
Haaland will have the opportunity to participate more in the home team's play when they welcome newly promoted Premier League team Ipswich Town on September 24.
This is the first time the two clubs have met since January 2002, when City defeated Tractor Boys in the FA Cup.
