St. Jakob-Park Stadium in Basel will host the final match in 2025. As FC Basel's modern home stadium, nicknamed joggeli by locals, this stadium was inaugurated in 2001 to replace St. Petersburg Stadium. The old Jakob, where the World Cup 1954 took place.
This will be the fifth match of EURO Women's 2025 taking place at St. Jakob-Park. The previous four matches all had a large number of spectators, from 34,000 people or more. In particular, there have been some notable matches here such as Germany vs France, Germany vs Denmark...
What is the format of the EURO women's final?
If the score is tied after the official match time, England and Spain will enter two extra periods, each of which is 15 minutes. If they still draw, the two teams will compete in a penalty shootout to determine the winner.
The previous three EURO women's finals were decided in extra time: Germany beat Norway 3-1 in Aalborg in 1991 and then, a decade later, beat Sweden 1-0 in Ulm thanks to Claudia Muller's goal.
However, in 2022, the situation turned around at Wembley when Chloe Kelly scored the decisive goal to help England win 2-1 against Germany in 120 minutes.
The only final match that had to go into a penalty shootout was at EURO 1984, when Sweden beat England at Luton with a score of 4-3, after drawing 1-1 in two matches.
What will the champion team receive?
The winning team will receive a real-sized simulation trophy and 40 gold medals, while the runner-up team will be awarded 40 silver medals.
The EURO 2025 women's champions will also face the CONMEBOL Copa America Femenina 2025 champions, in the second UEFA-CONMEBOL Women's Finalissima, with the time and venue to be announced later. England beat Brazil at Wembley in April 2023 to win their first Finalissima championship.
