On the night of June 6 (Vietnam time), Tottenham announced the dismissal of head coach Ange Postecoglou.
The 59-year-old coach just helped Spurs win their first trophy in 17 years when defeating Manchester United in the Europa League final last month. This result also guarantees a place in the Champions League next season.
However, Postecoglou and his team have had a terrible journey in the Premier League. They have suffered 22 defeats, the worst record in Premier League history. Spurs finished 17th in the table at the end of the season, with their lowest tally since being promoted to the top flight in 1978.
Therefore, there is a reason for Tottenham's board to make the above decision. According to ESPN, president Daniel Levy informed Postecoglou about the dismissal news earlier this week.
Postecoglou leaves after just two seasons in charge. Sources say he will receive up to £4 million (US$5.4 million) in compensation and a £2 million bonus for the Europa League title.
In an official statement, Tottenham said: "We are extremely grateful to Ange for his dedication and contribution during his two years at the Club. Ange will always be remembered as the third manager in our history to win a European title, along with legendary figures Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw".
"However, the Board of Directors has agreed to conclude that the change will bring the best benefits to the Club."
Notifying Tottenham's reasons for the above decision, there is a section: "It is important that we can compete on many fronts and believe that changing the approach will give us the strongest opportunities for the upcoming season and the following years."
The club also thanked coach Ange Postecoglou for the great foundation he left, and wished him well for the future.
Spurs will step up the search for a replacement. The candidates include Brentford's Thomas Frank, Fulham's Marco Silva and Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola.
On social media, many Spurs fans believe this was a mistake by the team. Thousands of people freely wrote about the article saying goodbye to Postecoglou and left opposing comments. Another part agreed with the board's decision after a record low result in the Premier League.
