Recently, the Disciplinary Board of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) imposed a two-match ban on defender Le Quang Hung (SHB Da Nang club) for intentionally assaulting an opponent in the match against Hanoi FC in round 10 of the 2024-2025 V.League.
Talking to Lao Dong, Quang Hung expressed: "I committed a foul on my opponent but it was not such an ugly act. Xuan Tu was very fast, I tried to push him with my hand, committing a foul to prevent the attack. However, my hand pushed up towards Xuan Tu's face and it felt like I was intentionally hitting him. As soon as the play ended, I asked Xuan Tu if he was bleeding. Luckily, everything was fine. After the match, I called Xuan Tu to check on him and he said there was no problem. Unfortunately, the penalty was given and I was completely surprised to know that my mistake was judged so severely."
Before that, in the 55th minute of the match between Da Nang and Ha Noi, Xuan Tu quickly escaped down the left wing. Quang Hung was passed and tried to push his opponent down, accepting a dangerous penalty. Quang Hung's arm pushed Xuan Tu in the face but it was not intentional.
At that time, the main referee Tran Ngoc Nho only gave Quang Hung a yellow card, the VAR team did not intervene and check the red card in this situation.
In round 10 of V.League, a similar situation occurred when Van Hanh (Ha Tinh) kicked the ball hard, accidentally hitting Antonio Luiz (Thanh Hoa) straight in the chest.
Referee Hoang Ngoc Ha checked VAR and determined that there was no foul. Van Hanh's foot hit his opponent's chest but he did not mean to. The VFF Disciplinary Board also ignored this foul.
Whether it is intentional or unintentional physical assault is not an easy line to define. But it is clear that SHB Da Nang club is seriously affected by Quang Hung's penalty. This round, they still do not have the services of Phi Hoang, Yuri, Marlon due to injury and now Le Quang Hung.
Da Nang's opponent in round 11 of V.League, Ho Chi Minh City, is also missing many key players due to suspensions and injuries. Therefore, Da Nang's loss of players is considered a lucky opportunity for the Thong Nhat Stadium team as they will have more chances to gain points.
