The coaching staff of the Vietnamese national team has just had a notable addition when coach Kim Sang Sik welcomed a new assistant, Kim Do-heon - a former player who has fought for many years in the Korean national team jersey.
According to Lao Dong's source, Mr. Kim Do-heon has been in Vietnam since yesterday (June 21), ready to start working.
Kim Do-heon has a remarkable background when he played and when he switched to training. The former midfielder born in 1982 has 62 caps for the Korean national team, scored 12 goals and participated in the 2006 World Cup. He was once considered one of the best central midfielders in the K.League at its peak.
The player career of the new assistant coach of the Vietnamese national team also spanned many different environments. He played for West Brom in the Premier League in the 2008-2009 season with 25 appearances. Returning to Korea, he played for Seongnam, Suwon FC and Police FC, and was honored in the K.League Team of the Year for 4 consecutive seasons.
After retiring, Mr. Kim Do-heon accumulated more coaching experience at Suwon Samsung Bluewings, Chengdu Rongcheng and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. In Jeonbuk, he was assigned to take charge of the team in the role of interim coach.
One of the reasons why Kim Do-heon's appearance received much expectation lies in his long-term relationship with coach Kim Sang-sik.
The two used to play side by side in Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma and the Korean national team, and grew up together from a successful generation of players in the early 2000s.
The addition of an experienced assistant shows that the Vietnamese team is completing its professional apparatus in the face of challenges ahead.
According to the plan, the first training session of the Vietnamese team will take place on the afternoon of June 23.
