On June 15, coach Kim Sang-sik just announced the list of 28 players to gather for the Vietnamese national team in the 2nd gathering in 2026, in preparation for the series of international friendly matches and the campaign to defend the ASEAN Cup championship.
This list is a combination of experience and youth. The familiar framework continues to feature names such as Nguyen Quang Hai, Nguyen Hoang Duc, Do Duy Manh, Doan Van Hau, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Nguyen Thanh Chung, Nguyen Hai Long, Nguyen Van Vi or Pham Xuan Manh.
In addition, Mr. Kim still gives opportunities to naturalized and Vietnamese-origin players such as Nguyen Xuan Son, Dang Van Lam, Do Hoang Hen and new players Le Giang Patrik, Nguyen Tai Loc and Ngo Dang Khoa. The appearance of these factors helps the team increase choices, while creating competition in many positions.
Many quality young players were also called up such as Nguyen Dinh Bac, Nguyen Ngoc My, Nguyen Nhat Minh, Dinh Quang Kiet and Tran Trung Kien. This is considered a preparation step for the process of building a successor force for the national team.
According to the plan, the Vietnamese team will gather from June 22 in Hanoi, before going to South Korea for training from July 2 to 14 and playing 3 international friendly matches.
After returning home, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team will meet Myanmar at Thai Nguyen Stadium on July 18 to review the force.
The Vietnamese team then entered the ASEAN Cup 2026 with the opening match at Timor Leste Stadium on July 24, with the goal of successfully defending the championship.
