Vietnam have a big advantage over Singapore after winning 2-0 against their opponents in the first leg of the ASEAN Cup 2024 semi-final away match. The goals of the "Golden Star Warriors" were scored by Nguyen Tien Linh and Nguyen Xuan Son in the last 10 minutes of extra time.
Speaking at the press conference after the match, Duy Manh shared: "The Vietnamese team followed the tactics and played resiliently. There were some difficult moments but we knew how to overcome them. The victory was a worthy achievement for us."
The 1996-born center-back emphasized: "We won the championship in 2018, it's been 6 years now. For now, the whole team needs to focus on the second leg of the semi-final and try to achieve our goal.
We know nothing is easy. Hopefully Vietnamese fans will come to the stadium in large numbers to cheer for the team. We will also give our all."
In the recent semi-final match, the camera caught the moment Duy Manh hugged Xuan Son to encourage him after the referee did not recognize the 27-year-old striker's goal.
Talking about this, the captain of the Vietnamese team said: "At that time, I approached the referee and told him to stay calm and check VAR if necessary. I also talked to Xuan Son.
He was resilient, hungry and determined from the start, very hungry. I think the goal was legal, the ball bounced off his chest. But the game has to follow the final decision of the referee."
According to the schedule, this afternoon (December 27), the Vietnamese team will return home. After landing, the whole team will continue to Phu Tho to prepare for the second leg of the semi-final match to welcome the opponent at Viet Tri Stadium.
