On the evening of December 26, the Vietnamese team won 2-0 against Singapore in the first leg of the ASEAN Cup 2024 semi-final. The goals were scored by Tien Linh and Xuan Son in the last 10 minutes of extra time.
Notably, before that, Xuan Son scored a great goal into the opponent's net after stopping the ball with his chest and turning to finish in the 84th minute. However, after directly reviewing the VAR situation, referee Kim Woo Sung did not recognize the goal for the Vietnamese team.
In an interview after the match, striker Nguyen Xuan Son said: "This was a wrong decision, I don't think it was a handball situation but I respect the referee's decision. Anyway, today the Vietnamese team got 3 points."
In this match, Xuan Son also had a classy overhead kick in the first half but he was offside. Anyway, the 27-year-old striker had a pretty good performance against his opponent Singapore.
Xuan Son emphasized: "An important victory, so happy, now it's time to return to Vietnam. Let's move forward and win the ASEAN Cup championship."
After this match, the Vietnamese team will return to their home stadium Viet Tri (Phu Tho) to prepare for the second leg semi-final against Singapore, taking place at 8:00 p.m. on December 29.
