On the afternoon of June 20, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced the list of U22 Vietnam preparing for the 2025 U23 Southeast Asian Cup finals.
Accordingly, the players most selected are still familiar factors who have participated in the two recent gatherings under the leadership of Acting Head Coach Dinh Hong Vinh.
Notably, Mr. Kim Sang-sik also decided to call up 8 players who contributed to the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship: goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien, defender Nguyen Hong Phuc, midfielder Nguyen Van Truong, Khuat Van Khang, Dinh Xuan Tien, strikers Nguyen Dang Duong, Le Dinh Long Vu and Nguyen Quoc Viet. Most of them continue to affirm their positions when being called up to participate in the 2024 AFC U23 Championship.
In addition, U22 Vietnam also welcomed the return of striker Nguyen Dinh Bac after a period of injury treatment. This young player is considered the brightest discovery in Vietnamese football in recent years with good individual skills, diverse finishing ability and modern football thinking.
He also left his mark in the national team with a goal against the Philippines in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and a goal against Japan in the 2023 Asian Cup.
Two other notable faces are overseas Vietnamese midfielder Viktor Le (Hong Linh Ha Tinh) and striker Bui Alex (B Bohemians Praha team 1905, competing in the Third Division of the Czech Republic).
While Viktor is performing well in the V.League and has participated in recent training sessions, Bui Alex has just had his first try out with U22 Vietnam in the gathering at the end of May.
Another notable young factor is midfielder Nguyen Ngoc My of Dong A Thanh Hoa. In 2024, Ngoc My won the title of top scorer at the National U21 tournament, contributing greatly to helping U21 Dong A Thanh Hoa win the bronze medal.
However, U22 Vietnam is also missing striker Bui Vi Hao due to injury.
According to the plan, the U22 Vietnam team will gather on June 26 in Ba Ria Vung Tau. The whole team will practice here until July 14 and then go to Indonesia to participate in the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, taking place from July 15 to 29.
In the group stage, Vietnam will face Laos on July 19 and Cambodia on July 22.
At the U23 Southeast Asian arena, Vietnam has won the championship twice in a row in 2022 and 2023.
