On the morning of February 18, the Disciplinary Board of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) issued a penalty for coach Van Sy Son of Quang Nam club. Accordingly, for the act of reacting to the referee and the tournament organizing committee after the Quang Nam 4-4 draw with Hanoi Police on February 15, the VFF Disciplinary Board decided to fine Mr. Son 5 million VND and suspend him from duty for the next 2 matches.
Thus, coach Van Sy Son will not be allowed to participate in the 2 matches of Quang Nam vs Thanh Hoa in the compensation match of round 11 taking place tomorrow (February 19) and round 14 (taking place on February 23, V.League 2024-2025.
In the match between Quang Nam and Hanoi Police in round 13 of V.League 2024-2025 at Hang Day Stadium, coach Van Sy Son could not contain his anger and reacted strongly to the referee after the home team equalized 4-4 in the 90+7 minute. Mr. Son said that the Hanoi Police player committed a foul right before Quang Hai made an assist for Alan to score to level the score.
Although the referee team consulted VAR technology before recognizing the goal, at the post-match press conference, coach Van Sy Son was still not satisfied, affirming that such an referee's way of operating only caused Vietnamese football to decline.
"VAR can clearly demonstrate whether the situations were fouls or not. But I do not appreciate the referee's fairness. We are trying to create new vitality because we have accepted to pursue the game. However, the problem of referees is like this, then Vietnamese football will go down," said Mr. Son.
Notably, in the compensation match of round 11 against Thanh Hoa tomorrow, both head coaches of the two teams will not be on duty. The reason is that coach Popov of Thanh Hoa club was also not allowed to take up the task because he received a red card in the match against Ho Chi Minh City on February 14.
