According to the schedule, the U20 Vietnam team will face U20 Syria in the final match of the 2025 U20 Asian qualifiers.
Currently, coach Hua Hien Vinh and his team have 9 points after 3 wins against Bangladesh, Guam and Bhutan, temporarily ranking second in Group A. U20 Vietnam has the same number of points as the top team U20 Syria but has a lower goal difference (+11 compared to +14).
According to the tournament rules, the 10 group winners and the 5 best second-placed teams will advance to the finals.
Therefore, if they want to ensure their place in the next round, U20 Vietnam must defeat U20 Syria to take the top spot in the group.
In case of a draw or loss, U20 Vietnam will end the qualifying round as second place in Group A and will have to wait for the results of the remaining groups to select the 5 second-placed teams with the best results.
In the list of runners-up teams, U20 Vietnam is currently ranked 2nd, behind U20 Iraq and above U20 Yemen, U20 Qatar, and U20 Australia. However, this is still not a safe ranking for Cong Phuong and his teammates because there is still one more round ahead.
U20 Vietnam needs to make efforts for the upcoming match. In addition to improving their weak point of cumbersome playing style, coach Hua Hien Vinh's students should maintain stable physical strength against opponents with good stature and physical condition.
The match between U20 Vietnam and U20 Syria takes place at 7:00 p.m. today (September 29).
