According to Lao Dong, coach Kim Sang-sik is preparing to call up naturalized striker Nguyen Xuan Son to the Vietnam national team to prepare for the AFF Cup (new name is ASEAN Cup) 2024.
The necessary procedures for Xuan Son to be eligible to play for the Vietnamese team at the AFF Cup were completed by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) in mid-November. Previously, this player was on the preliminary list of the Vietnamese team.
Currently, Nam Dinh club is competing in AFC Champions League Two. After the match against Bangkok United ends, Xuan Son can join the national team.
Nguyen Xuan Son is one of the best strikers in Vietnamese football at the moment. In the 2023-2024 season, he played explosively and made history as the player who scored the most goals in a V.League season with 31 goals.
The striker born in 1997 and the Nam Dinh Steel Blue won the V.League championship, won the Golden Boot title and was included in the typical squad of the season.
By the 2024-2025 season, after a difficult start, Xuan Son is gradually regaining his scoring form with 7 goals in the V.League (equal to Tien Linh) and 5 goals in the AFC Champions League Two. The 27-year-old striker is both in good form and has a real desire to contribute to the Vietnam national team.
If selected to participate in the AFF Cup 2024, Nguyen Xuan Son can only play on December 21, 2024 (enough to have worked in Vietnam for 5 years), which means he can only play for the Vietnamese team against Myanmar.
