On the afternoon of October 5, the Vietnamese team entered its first training session in the October 2024 gathering, aiming for a friendly match with the Indian team.
This time, coach Kim Sang-sik called up some new players such as Van Quyet, Ngoc Quang, Quoc Viet and Van Kien.
Regarding the personnel of the Vietnamese team, midfielder Do Hung Dung shared: "Coach Kim always said that players should not be judged by age. Therefore, we will not mention young players, old players, or experienced players. The team is a collection of players trusted by the head coach. All will focus on completing the assigned tasks, regardless of age."
Speaking specifically about the case of veteran striker Nguyen Van Quyet, Hung Dung said: "Quyet rarely shares with the media, but his efforts are shown on the football field. To maintain his form for more than 10 years like that is really difficult.
Van Quyet is a role model for all Vietnamese players. People look to him to see how he maintains his form, continues to improve and develop himself despite his old age.
I think it is very difficult to learn from Van Quyet, because each individual has different expertise and abilities, you cannot tell this player to learn from that player.
But sharing about competitive spirit, lifestyle, or simply how to behave with the media..., young players should learn, from there keep themselves calm, focus on competition, and not be influenced by outside influences."
For various reasons, during the FIFA Days in October, the Vietnamese team will only have one friendly match with the Indian team on October 12. This is also a challenge for coach Kim Sang-sik and his team on their journey towards the AFF Cup 2024.
"For the national team, the more matches the better. Even if we practice for several weeks or months, it is not as good as 1 or 2 matches. Even if we can meet 3 or 4 teams, it is even better.
Only when we compete can we make mistakes, thereby overcoming our weaknesses to improve. The Vietnamese team really needs matches like this, whether it's against another team or a V.League club. We need to compete," Hung Dung emphasized.
Regarding the goal in the upcoming match, the midfielder born in 1993 said: "In any match, the goal is to win. No matter how strong or weak the opponent is, football is a competitive sport. Going into the field without thinking about winning is disrespectful to football."
