Coach Masatada Ishii of the Thai team shared his thoughts after the defeat against Vietnam in the ASEAN Cup 2024.

On the evening of January 5, the Thai team lost 2-3 to Vietnam in the second leg of the 2024 ASEAN Cup final, losing with a total score of 3-5. This result caused the "War Elephants" to end this year's tournament as runners-up.

Speaking after the match, Thailand coach Masatada Ishii said: "Thailand cannot win the tournament this year but we have many young players who are very good for the future. The Vietnamese team played better and deserved to win the championship.

Thailand made mistakes in the first minutes of the match and those moments changed the game. We cannot repeat this mistake."

The Japanese coach said his players did very well and united together. "We lost but then tried hard to come back. I thank the players for working hard throughout the tournament. I thank the fans for their support. We will help Thai football continue to move forward," Mr. Ishii said.

In addition, the captain of the Thai team shared his plans for the upcoming training session. Mr. Ishii said: "We have 4-5 good quality players, in addition to many U23 players in Thai League 2 and Thai League 3 with good quality. I will call them up".

When asked by reporters about the second goal, was it an ugly goal? Should Thailand have let Vietnam score again? Coach Ishii said: "It was a beautiful goal."
