Young players like Cong Vien, Da Hai, Ngoc Anh… are playing extremely explosively in this tournament, especially in the match that defeated host Thailand to win first place in Group A. In which, Cong Vien was the one who brought home a double goal, Da Hai also contributed 1 assist.

It is the dedicated playing style and youthfulness, combined with the experience of the veterans, that has helped Mr. Diego Giustozzi have many options to combine the teams and attack tactics. The diversity in the playing style of the Vietnamese futsal team is also shown in the fact that except for the two goalkeepers Ho Van Y and Pham Van Tu, the remaining 12 names in our list of participants in the 2024 Southeast Asian futsal tournament have also scored.

The match against the Thai futsal team also left an impression on young player Da Hai. After making a mistake that led to the loss of the ball for the Vietnamese futsal team, this player immediately made up for his mistake by assisting Cong Vien, who scored the winning goal 3-2. This shows the efforts of the young players, especially against an opponent that is dominating Southeast Asian futsal like Thai futsal.

Be careful against Australia in the semi-finals

With the top spot in Group A, the Vietnamese futsal team will face Australia in the semi-finals of the 2024 Southeast Asian futsal tournament. This is considered an “easy” opponent compared to the Indonesian futsal team – the team that won the top spot in Group B. Therefore, coach Diego Giustozzi’s team has many opportunities to make their name in the final match.

We are feeling mentally relaxed after defeating our Thai opponents, but we should also remember that the match was basically decided when both teams were sure to reach the semi-finals. Not being under too much pressure helped Duc Hoa and his teammates play comfortably and overcome the Thais. But the semi-final match against Australia was different.

The nature of a knockout match more or less creates pressure on the Vietnamese futsal team. In terms of head-to-head record, the Vietnamese futsal team is not too superior when in the 5 previous encounters, we won 3 and the opponent won 2. Most recently, the Vietnamese futsal team defeated Australia 5-3 right before the 2024 Southeast Asian futsal tournament.

In terms of strength, Australia has a physical and one-on-one style of play. Their advantage in this tournament is that they are in a group with few teams, so they only played 3 group stage matches. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese futsal team has played 4 group stage matches and the final match against Thailand was quite tense.

Regarding achievements in the Southeast Asian tournament, the Australian futsal team has reached the finals 4 times and lost to Thailand all the time. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese futsal team has only reached the finals against Thailand twice and only won the runner-up position.
