As hosts, the Thai futsal team has twice led the Vietnamese futsal team, in the group winners' match, at the 2024 Southeast Asian futsal tournament. However, at the end of the match on November 6, the Thai futsal team lost 2-3. This is the first time in 10 years, the Thai futsal team lost to Vietnam.
“In this match, the Vietnamese futsal team turned the opportunity into a goal. We tried to maintain the offensive position, but the Vietnamese team responded strongly. In the second half, we were ahead of them and I thought I could control the match. But everything changed after a few minutes.
“I have to congratulate the Vietnamese team for beating us. It's also good that we lost, so it helps us get our mistakes to correct. But I'm also happy that the Thai futsal team fought to the last second”, said Miguel Rodrigo after the match.
In the semi-finals, the Thai futsal team will face Indonesia. This promises to be a difficult match for the hosts. Rodrigo also pointed out the limitations the students need to change.
“We need to recover quickly, improve our ability to play under pressure. Many players have not played in the right position, implemented the right tactics. They need to change that. I hope fans will come to cheer when we play against Indonesia. Surely we will do better”, Thai futsal team strategist shared.
Meanwhile, coach Diego Giustozzi of Vietnam futsal team said: “I am very pleased with my team's performance. The first half we played well. In the second half, we tried our best. All the players fought hard.
The Vietnamese futsal team tried to change the game, taking the risk to attack Thailand. The goal we scored came from this approach. When there was a chance, we didn't miss it".
In the semi-finals, the Vietnamese futsal team will face Australia. The match will take place at 15:00 on 8.11.
