On the evening of November 6, the Vietnamese futsal team faced host Thailand in the final match of Group A of the 2024 Southeast Asian Championship. Both teams had qualified for the next round one match early, so they entered the match with a relaxed mentality.
The Thai futsal team took the lead twice, but coach Diego Giustozzi's players played with determination and equalized twice. In the final minutes, despite Thailand's constant pressure, the Vietnamese futsal team was the team to score the winning goal. Dinh Cong Vien continued to score after a very precise assist from Da Hai, sealing a 3-2 victory for the Vietnamese futsal team.
This victory not only helped coach Diego Giustozzi's team enter the semi-finals as the top team in Group A, but also had great significance. This was the first time in 10 years that the Vietnamese futsal team could defeat the Thai futsal team.
The Thai team has long been the strongest rival in the region. In 17 times of organizing the Southeast Asian futsal tournament, Thailand won 16 times.
In the semi-finals, the Vietnamese futsal team will face Australia, while host Thailand will face the Indonesian futsal team. Both matches will take place on November 8.
