U17 Vietnam is about to have a new foreign coach?

Vietnam U17 will have a new foreign coach to lead the team to the 2025 AFC U17 finals.

At the end of 2024, U17 Vietnam under the leadership of coach Cristiano Roland passed the qualifying round to win a ticket to the 2025 U17 Asian finals.

However, after the tournament, the Portuguese strategist decided to leave the national team to lead SHB Da Nang club in V.League.

According to Lao Dong, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has been actively searching for a new coach for Vietnam U17. The identity of the new captain will be announced soon, possibly a Japanese or Korean coach with experience in youth training.

According to the draw results, in the U17 Asian finals, U17 Vietnam is in the same group with U17 Australia, U17 Japan and U17 UAE. This is a huge challenge for Viet Anh and his teammates when facing strong teams in the region.

Starting from the 2025 U17 World Cup finals held in Qatar, FIFA decided to increase the number of participating teams from 24 to 48.

Asia will be given eight places and the opportunity for young players will be doubled. This means that the eight teams that reach the quarterfinals of the 2025 AFC U17 Championship will be present at the world stage.

Aiming to win a ticket to the 2025 U17 World Cup, VFF will also create the best conditions for the new coaching staff of U17 Vietnam to start working soon. Young players will also have the opportunity to train abroad and play friendly matches with quality opponents.

The 2025 AFC U17 Championship Finals will take place from April 3 to 20 in Saudi Arabia. The official match schedule will be announced by the Asian Football Confederation in the near future.
