The draw ceremony was held on the morning of May 30 in Indonesia. Along with Thailand and host Indonesia, Vietnam is ranked in the number 1 seed group.
While the group of U23 Vietnam is considered quite light compared to opponents from the two neighboring countries of Cambodia and Laos, the remaining 2 groups are expected to have more competition.
Group A includes host countries Indonesia U23, Malaysia, Philippines and Brunei while Group C includes Thailand U23, Myanmar and Timor-Leste.

The 2025 U23 Southeast Asian Championship will take place from July 15 to July 31, 2025 in Indonesia. In the group stage, 10 teams will compete in a round-robin to calculate points.
The three teams of the table and a second team with the best achievement will win tickets to the semi -finals. Notably, the way to consider achievements between the second team, the second team of Group A will not be calculated with the results with the bottom of the table.
With the achievement of winning the regional tournament twice in a row in 2022 and 2023, U23 Vietnam is one of the candidates competing for the championship at this year's tournament.
To prepare for the tournament, the U22 Vietnam team officially gathered with the Vietnam national team from May 29 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center.
Along with the Southeast Asian U23 tournament, the young players also aim for other important tasks in 2025, including the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers in September and men's football at the 33rd SEA Games at the end of this year.
