More than a decade of burning the pot of banh chung
Amidst the bustling atmosphere of the last days of the year, at Self-managed Workers' Group No. 1 (Lien Chieu ward, Da Nang city), the aroma of dong leaves and sticky rice blended in the smoke of the kitchen has created a Tet space imbued with tradition. The organization of cooking banh chung for workers here has been maintained persistently for more than 11 years. For workers far from home, the pot of banh chung overnight is reunion, helping them ease homesickness as spring is approaching.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dung, Head of Self-managed Workers Group No. 1, shared with pride mixed with emotion: “Our self-managed worker group has over 1,000 workers renting rooms, of which the number of people staying for Tet this year is about 70 people. Almost I have maintained cooking banh chung for the children for 11 years now. Especially, this year there is also pork for the children, which is a bright spot, a great joy”.
The green banh chung cakes, wrapped with all the dedication of the self-management team, have truly become a priceless spiritual gift, warming the hearts of workers who are striving to make a living in a foreign land.
The image of large pots on fire in the middle of the boarding house yard, surrounded by laughter and greetings from neighbors, proves the spirit of mutual affection of Da Nang people towards workers.

Connecting love
Within the framework of the "Tet not far from home" spring Binh Ngo 2026 program, the banh chung cooking activity in Lien Chieu ward has become a touching highlight. This is a practical activity to care for the spiritual and material life of union members and workers according to the direction of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. Instead of feeling lonely when they cannot return to their hometown, workers feel the close attention from local authorities and trade union levels, helping them feel secure in sticking with their work and this land.
Mr. Le Trong Nguyen, Chairman of Lien Chieu Ward Trade Union, said: "Within the framework of the program, we have organized to cook about 350 Chung cakes to hand over to workers. We hope that these cakes will help brothers and sisters have a warmer and more fulfilling Spring." Not only Chung cakes, Trade Union representatives and ward leaders also directly go to each boarding house and social housing area to visit and give practical Tet gifts.

For single workers, those raising young children or families in particularly difficult circumstances, the presence of the Trade Union organization at this time is the most solid support.
Tet gifts, green banh chung and sincere wishes have ignited faith, further strengthened the strong bond between the Trade Union organization and workers. The "Tet not far from home" program not only helps workers have a warm Tet, but also affirms the commitment of all levels of government to not leaving any workers behind.
