Gratitude to 74 Self-managed Workers' Groups
On January 30, the Da Nang City Labor Federation organized a meeting and presented gifts of gratitude to the Management Board of the Self-managed Workers' Group of boarding houses in the city on the occasion of the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year 2026.
This is an annual activity of practical significance of the Da Nang City Labor Federation to recognize and encourage the contributions of the Executive Boards of the Groups.
At the same time, it is an opportunity for leaders of the City Labor Federation, local departments, self-managed worker groups... to exchange and share good practices, and propose solutions to continue improving the operational quality of the model in the coming time.
According to Mr. Le Van Dai - Standing Vice Chairman of the City Labor Federation, Da Nang is an industrial - service city, with an increasingly large workforce, mostly migrant workers living and working in industrial parks, export processing zones, and businesses in the city.
Currently, Da Nang city has tens of thousands of workers renting rooms in residential areas, concentrated boarding houses, living conditions are still difficult; material and spiritual life, security and order in some areas still contain potential issues that need to be concerned and cared for promptly.
Starting from that practical requirement, from 2010, under the leadership of the City Party Committee, close coordination of local authorities, the Police force and related sectors, the City Labor Federation has deployed the construction of a model of Self-managed Workers' Groups for boarding houses.
Over more than 15 years of formation and development, the model has been constantly consolidated, perfected and become one of the typical models in caring for, managing, and gathering workers outside the enterprise.
To date, the whole city has 74 self-managed worker groups in boarding houses, with more than 11,000 workers living in nearly 5,600 boarding rooms. Each group has an operating board, including representatives of residential area authorities, Trade Unions, Police, landlords and workers, playing a core role in organizing, coordinating and maintaining the group's activities.
Contributing to maintaining security and order
Practice shows that wherever the Management Board of the Self-managed Workers' Group operates actively and responsibly, the security and order situation is maintained, the relationship between landlords and workers is increasingly harmonious, and the material and spiritual life of workers is gradually improved" - Mr. Le Van Dai said.
In the past time, the Steering Committees of the Self-managed Workers' Group have overcome difficulties, persistently stuck to the area, and proactively grasped the thoughts and aspirations of workers.
Self-managed worker groups in boarding houses have closely coordinated with local authorities, police forces and mass organizations to propagate and mobilize workers to well comply with the law and regulations of boarding houses; promptly detect, reflect and participate in solving problems arising right from the grassroots level.
Many Executive Boards have actively contributed with Trade Union levels to effectively organize cultural, artistic, and sports activities, visiting workers in difficult circumstances, workers far from home, contributing to building a safe, united, and compassionate living environment in boarding houses.
In particular, in ensuring security and order, the Steering Committees of Self-managed Workers Groups have played a very clear role. The groups have actively coordinated with grassroots police forces in propagating crime prevention and control, drug prevention and control, prostitution, gambling, alcoholism, raising vigilance among workers; promptly detecting, reminding and providing information about signs of law violations, contributing to maintaining stable security and order in residential areas.
These results show that the Management Board of Self-managed Workers' Groups in boarding houses is not just a purely self-managed force, but has truly become a nucleus of solidarity, an extended arm of the Trade Union organization in caring for, protecting and accompanying workers right where they live" - Mr. Le Van Dai said.
