Christmas is an occasion for family members to gather together, share warm moments and enjoy delicious food.
Danish culinary culture is also very popular with diners around the world. In particular, caramelized potatoes (brunede kartofler) is a traditional dish, often served with main dishes such as roast pork or roast duck.
To make caramel potatoes, housewives need to prepare ingredients including 1kg of small potatoes, 100gr of white sugar, 50gr of unsalted butter and 3gr of salt.
Prepare the potatoes by washing them, keeping the skins on to prevent them from cracking during boiling. Place the potatoes in a pot, cover with water and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are tender. Let cool and peel the potatoes thoroughly.
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once the butter is completely melted, add the sugar to the pan. Stir constantly until the sugar melts and turns golden brown, creating a sweet, caramelized mixture.
Reduce heat to medium and add peeled potatoes to the caramel. Using a wooden spoon or spatula, gently roll the potatoes around in the caramel to ensure each potato is evenly coated in caramel.
Continue cooking for about 5 - 7 minutes, shaking the pan occasionally to prevent the potatoes from sticking together and to ensure the caramel is evenly coated on all sides.
When the potatoes are evenly coated with caramel and have an attractive color, turn off the stove and serve the caramelized potatoes on a plate. This dish will be more delicious when served with main dishes such as grilled pork, roast duck...
