Dr. Shareefa Chause, dermatologist, cosmetic specialist at Shareefa Skin Care Clinic (India), said that when you have body odor, especially in the armpit area, you can find many instructions to eliminate the odor. One of the ways that many people share is to apply salt water or salt directly to the armpit or the area with body odor, about twice a day can help eliminate the odor.
Dr. Shareefa Chause warns that while dabbing salt water on your underarms to get rid of underarm odor may seem like an easy solution, it may not work for all skin types.
Although salt has antibacterial properties that help eliminate body odor by killing certain bacteria, it may not be suitable for everyone and can cause allergic reactions such as burning sensation, redness, and itching.
“Everyone has a different skin type and what works for one person may not work for another,” notes Dr. Chause.
People should avoid opting for any home remedies, as they can worsen skin texture and cause dry skin or even eczema, says Chause.
“Salt scrubbing or applying salt water will not eliminate underarm odor caused by a combination of sweat and bacteria. Therefore, you need to practice good hygiene measures such as bathing regularly, using chemical-free products as prescribed by your dermatologist, and using underarm deodorants with antiperspirant properties,” Dr. Chause instructs.
Be cautious while using such methods as everyone’s skin sensitivity is different. It is best to consult a specialist and dermatologist before trying any home remedies.
