The gallbladder is considered one of the important organs of the human body to help digest fat. After gallbladder removal, patients also need to research and consult to adjust their diet after surgery to prevent unpleasant symptoms such as bloating, diarrhea or indigestion.
Limit saturated fat
Patients should avoid consuming foods high in saturated fat such as fatty meats, egg yolks, milk and full-fat dairy products.
In addition, trans fats found in cakes, cookies and processed foods should be avoided. Unsaturated fats found in olive oil, nuts and fish should be used to help support a better digestive system.
Increase fiber
Add more fiber-rich foods to your daily diet, including green vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, to prevent constipation. However, do not eat too much fiber to avoid bloating and discomfort.
Avoid irritating foods
Patients should also limit foods that can irritate the digestive tract such as fried foods, spicy foods, coffee, alcohol or carbonated drinks. These foods can increase the risk of diarrhea or indigestion after gallbladder surgery.
Vitamin and mineral supplements
After gallbladder removal, the patient will experience reduced absorption of some fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamins A, D, E, K. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure a complete diet to provide the above vitamins or consult a doctor to come up with a standard consumption level, not too much but not too little.
Patients should also note to divide into 4-6 meals a day. This will help reduce the load on the digestive system and help the body absorb nutrients more effectively.
