On November 15, the Hue Central Hospital Labor Union announced that the Youth Union and the Hospital Diabetes Club had just coordinated with the Thua Thien Hue Province Young Doctors Association to organize the program "Free diabetes screening for people in Thua Thien Hue Province".
Beneficiaries of the benefit are diabetic patients undergoing inpatient and outpatient treatment at the hospital and people in the residential area.
Diabetes is one of the common chronic non-communicable diseases with increasing incidence not only in big cities but also in rural areas. Health education communication about this disease is especially important to contribute to the success of effective treatment and management of the disease.
Participants in the free diabetes screening program will receive a general examination, pulse measurement, blood pressure measurement, and capillary blood sugar test. These test kits are among 4,000 tests supported by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Young Physicians Association for the people. Each participant will also receive a bottle of hand sanitizer from the organizers. The program will run until November 21.
MSc. Dr. Pham Nhu Hien - Chairman of the Young Physicians Association of Thua Thien Hue province - said that diabetes is the third leading cause of death in Vietnam, showing the need for screening and early detection of the disease.
The results of the most recent nationwide survey (2020) show that the rate of diabetes in Vietnam is 7.3%; the rate of pre-diabetes is 17.8%. Of which, the noteworthy figures are that the rate of people with undiagnosed diabetes in Vietnam is currently more than 60% and more than half of adults have never had a blood sugar test to detect diabetes.
“Through the program, people are not only updated with knowledge about diabetes, but also know how to take care of themselves, use medicine properly at home, and detect early complications of the disease” - Master, Doctor Pham Nhu Hien shared.
