Pressure and stress at work are inevitable due to the requirements of the modern working environment. However, when the pressure becomes excessive and uncontrollable, it will harm the health of workers.
Ms. Dam Thi To Nga (Cua Nam ward, Hanoi) is a senior specialist of the office of a foreign financial institution located in Hoan Kiem ward, Hanoi. Before working for this financial institution, Ms. Nga worked for 5 years at an office of a foreign airline in Vietnam.
With a good job and a high income, Ms. Nga said she often feels high pressure and stress. Ms. Nga said that she plans to continue working until the end of 2025, then quit to rearrange her life for about half a year before thinking about finding a new job.
Ms. Nga is not an isolated case who often feels pressured and stressed at work every day.
According to Mr. Le Quang Trung - former Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Employment, stress occurs in many different working situations but often becomes more serious when employees have less support from supervisors, colleagues and have less control over their work processes.
Mr. Trung said that the causes of stress at work can include too much workload, too much time to solve problems; management style (management puts too much pressure and unrealistic expectations on employees); work relationships (other members of the group or the manager are not in harmony, which will create stressful situations); roles and responsibilities (when there are too many responsibilities, employees will feel pressured to complete everything in the best way)...
"Symptoms of stress at the workplace can affect the mental and physical health of employees. Some symptoms may disappear after that stressful day ends, some symptoms leave long-term consequences, said Mr. Trung.
Mr. Trung believes that stress among employees at work can lead to a higher rate of job drop due to illness stemming from prolonged stress. People can also quit because stress causes low motivation and lack of energy. When the rate of unemployment is high, businesses can be affected in terms of time and money to supplement personnel and stabilize the organization.
Regarding solutions to reduce stress at work and take care of employees' mental health, Mr. Trung suggested that companies should plan group building activities to improve spirit and cohesion, while building trust throughout the organization. In addition, always ensure a company culture that promotes a balance between work and time for each individual, have policies to make employees feel that they are always cared for.
ManpowerGroup surveyed more than 13,750 employees in 19 countries to better understand what they want, as well as their feelings of overall happiness, job satisfaction and professional confidence.
One notable content is the link between unemployment rate stress. No matter how meaningful the job is, it is difficult to compensate for the burnout, when the stress that workers experience at work is still at a high level globally - 49% of workers feel very stressed every day at work.
