Workers face many online scams
Mr. Duong Minh Thinh - a worker at Viet Tri Garment Joint Stock Company (Quynh Phu commune, Hung Yen province) - said that recently, he has regularly received messages via social networks with many different contents, including invitations to participate in online programs and activities.
Not only Mr. Thinh himself, his family members also became targets of fraudsters. At times when he was away, someone texted his mother, impersonating him and requesting money transfer. Fortunately, the family discovered it in time and no damage occurred.Yeah, damn it
According to Mr. Thinh, scammers also use many different methods to build trust, such as inviting workers and relatives to participate in programs, then impersonating officials or providing information that makes message recipients lose vigilance.
From that reality, Mr. Thinh believes that improving knowledge and understanding of online scams is very necessary. He himself proactively researches and raises awareness to avoid becoming a victim, and at the same time transmits the information he knows to his family members.
Not only should I be vigilant, but I must remind my family members to be also vigilant, because the subjects can find ways to approach anyone" - Mr. Thinh shared.
At the dialogue with workers and laborers, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong - Chairwoman of the grassroots Trade Union of Maxport Limited Vietnam Co., Ltd. - Thai Binh Branch (Tan Thuan commune) also proposed to strengthen the prevention and combat of online fraud against workers.
According to Ms. Huong, the situation of fraud through phones, social networks and fake applications is increasingly sophisticated, with many tricks such as impersonating police, banks, job recruitment, online lending... A part of workers are scammed out of money due to lack of information, technology and legal knowledge, including young workers and migrant workers.
Notably, workers' access to warning information is still limited. Meanwhile, forms of communication about fraud prevention and control need to be more suitable to the specific characteristics of workers, in a concise, easy-to-understand, visual and easy-to-reach direction.
Increasing self-protection skills for workers
Faced with the above reality, the Hung Yen Provincial Labor Federation has coordinated with the Provincial Police to organize conferences to propagate and disseminate laws on traffic safety and prevention and combat of online fraud for union members and workers at many businesses such as Victory Vietnam Footwear Co., Ltd., Viet Tri Garment Joint Stock Company... and some other businesses.
At conferences, police officers propagate and disseminate legal regulations and analyze common fraud situations in reality. Specific examples help workers easily identify unusual signs when receiving calls, messages, links or invitations to participate in online programs.
At a dialogue with workers and laborers in Hung Yen, Mr. Tran Xuan Anh - Director of Hung Yen Provincial Police - said that cyber fraud is a non-traditional type of crime, without direct contact, property appropriation can still be carried out.
According to the Director of Hung Yen Provincial Police, along with the advantages from the development of science and technology, people also face risks from cybercrime. Therefore, workers and laborers need to raise their vigilance, equip themselves with knowledge and skills to proactively prevent.
Organizing direct propaganda sessions at enterprises helps workers have the opportunity to access official information, answer common problems and identify new methods and tricks of fraudsters.
