On September 23, according to information from the Ninh Binh Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, prolonged heavy rains caused flooding in many areas of the province. Among them, 10 schools were flooded, and students had to take leave from school or switch to online learning.
Previously, from September 13 - 17, heavy to very heavy rain appeared in Ninh Binh province, with common rainfall from 227.3 - 558.4mm. Heavy rain caused water on the Hoang Long and Day rivers to rise, causing flooding in many residential areas, affecting people's lives and activities as well as students' studies.
By September 23, the affected school sites in the province had stopped being flooded. The water receding at the school sites created conditions for educational institutions to deploy flood recovery, school cleaning, and ensuring a safe learning environment before welcoming students back.
At the school point of Branch 2 of Gia Vien Primary School, although the floodwaters have receded, the area outside the school gate is still flooded, and students still cannot go to school.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha - Principal of Gia Vien Primary School - said that as soon as the water receded, the school mobilized officials, teachers and parents to clean up mud, sanitize classrooms, and rearrange tables, chairs, and school supplies.
Currently, the area outside the school gate is still flooded, according to forecasts, floodwaters will recede completely by September 24, and students will be able to return to school" - Ms. Ha shared.
Ninh Binh Department of Education and Training requests schools to base on the actual situation to develop plans to make up for and consolidate knowledge for students after the interruption period. In flooded school sites, after the water recedes, it is necessary to focus on handling disinfection, sterilization, cleaning of classrooms and the environment, ensuring safety conditions to welcome students back to school soon.
Overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and ensuring environmental sanitation at school sites is an important condition for teaching and learning activities to return to normal soon, limiting the impact of rain and floods on students' learning.
