Risks from drugs for workers
Statistics from functional agencies show that drug addicts are mainly in the age group of 18-35 (accounting for 70%). That is also the age group accounting for a large proportion of workers (CNLĐ) in industrial parks.
Reality in many localities shows that drug criminals are trying to approach and lure workers; turning boarding houses and factory gates into illegal drug trading points. Some workers have become addicted, even committing drug crimes.
Meanwhile, many workers in industrial parks still live in difficult conditions, concentrated in boarding houses, and management is still limited. Unsafe living and working environment makes them easily seduced and attracted; and at the same time causes anxiety among workers, affecting the quality of human resources and security and order at the grassroots level.
The reality of many violations shows that workers in industrial parks are facing the risk of being approached and lured by drug criminals. Therefore, the Trade Union organization determines that strengthening the equipping of knowledge and skills for drug prevention and control for workers is an important and urgent task and needs to be implemented regularly and persistently. This is also a practical solution contributing to protecting workers, maintaining security and order at the grassroots level and promoting the role of workers in the sustainable development of the country.
Create changes in perception
Over the past time, the Trade Union organization has made efforts to propagate drug prevention and control among workers. The highlight is coordinating direct propaganda at enterprises, associated with drug testing for workers.
In 2025, 314 drug tests were implemented for workers. This activity not only contributes to effective prevention but also raises awareness and law compliance in workers.
From practical implementation, propaganda on drug prevention and control has become a part of activities to care for and protect the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of workers. This result was achieved thanks to the proactiveness of the Trade Union organization in proposing content, innovating working methods and closely coordinating with the police force and businesses.
Referring to the impact of drugs on the working environment and security and order, Major, Master Nguyen Dang Khoa, Department of Drug Crime Investigation Police, Ministry of Public Security, said that drugs damage the nervous system, cardiovascular system, psychological disorders leading to reduced productivity, labor discipline, leading to the risk of labor accidents; increasing acts of violating business regulations, disrupting family happiness, increasing violence, directly affecting security and society.
When businesses have employees related to drugs, complex drug, gambling, and prostitution hotspots will gradually form, increasing criminal offenses related to drugs, negatively impacting localities, and affecting the investment environment.
Exchanging views on equipping knowledge and skills for drug prevention and control for 100% of officials working in propaganda of the Trade Union organization, Mr. Phan Manh Hung - Deputy Head of the Trade Union Affairs Committee, Ha Tinh Provincial Labor Federation - requested the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to direct the implementation of compulsory training and fostering programs on drug prevention and control for trade union propaganda officials at all levels.
Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu - Standing Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour said: "The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour is assigned to preside over the implementation of Sub-project 4: "Improving the effectiveness of propaganda on drug prevention and control for workers in industrial parks to 2030" under Project 7 of the National Target Program on drug prevention and control to 2030. In which, focus on the goal of propaganda, dissemination, and education of laws, knowledge, and skills on drug prevention and control for more than 70% of workers in industrial parks and export processing zones".
