However, because the number of workers in the entire industry has decreased over the years for objective reasons and wages and income are not as attractive as before, even though every year, the number of union members growing exceeds the target of the General Confederation of Labor. Vietnam delivered, but the actual number of union members decreased compared to the beginning of the year.
In addition, the number of workers who are ethnic minorities and Lao and Cambodian people is high, accounting for a high proportion of the total number of workers in the entire industry, so they are not interested or not eligible to join the Vietnam Rubber Union.
Vice Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Phan Van Anh said that Resolution No. 02-NQ/TW, dated June 12, 2021 of the Politburo "On innovating the organization and operations of Vietnam Trade Unions in the new situation", has set a goal of having 16.5 million trade union members by 2030.
Resolution of the 13th Congress of Vietnam Trade Unions for the 2023 - 2028 term also sets the goal that by the end of the term, the whole country will have 15 million union members, establishing grassroots organizations in 100% of businesses with 25 or more employees. . The goal in 2024 is that the Vietnam Trade Union must develop 1 million union members, however, in the first 7 months of 2024, the growth rate of new union members is estimated at about 40%.
According to Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Phan Van Anh, in order to strengthen the establishment of grassroots trade unions and develop union members, in addition to the efforts of trade unions, it is necessary to have the attention and involvement of Party committees at all levels. government and expertise. Besides, there needs to be focus, investment in human and financial resources, and well-organized care activities so that workers can see the benefits of joining the union.
