Raising the minimum wage for workers
At the Ceremony to commend 101 outstanding and typical grassroots Trade Union Presidents in dialogue and collective bargaining organized by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to celebrate the 140th anniversary of International Labor Day May 1st (1886 - 2026), Da Nang was honored to have 2 grassroots Trade Union Presidents honored.
They are Ms. Le Thi Hai Chau - Chairwoman of the Trade Union of 29/3 Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company and Mr. Le Hoan Giang - Chairman of the Trade Union of Sedo Vinako One Member Limited Liability Company.
Currently, the common salary of garment workers only ranges from 5-8 million VND/month, only meeting about 75-80% of the minimum living standard. Income depends heavily on overtime, while the working environment still contains harsh and toxic factors.
This reality makes life for workers difficult, and at the same time leads to labor fluctuations, putting pressure on businesses in recruiting and retaining human resources.
Faced with that situation, Ms. Le Thi Hai Chau - Chairwoman of the Trade Union of 29/3 Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company and the Executive Committee of the Trade Union proactively deployed to collect workers' opinions, focusing on the content of collective bargaining on wages.
The goal is clearly defined as raising the minimum wage for workers working in heavy and hazardous conditions by 12.4% higher than the regional minimum level.
Notably, after the enterprise in Duy Xuyen was merged into Da Nang, the difference in the regional minimum wage has led to differences in the regime of social insurance contributions and benefits between labor sectors. From there, the Trade Union boldly proposed applying the regional wage level II for workers in this area to ensure long-term benefits.
The negotiation process lasted for many months with many obstacles. However, with perseverance, responsibility and consensus from the business side, Ms. Le Thi Hai Chau and the Trade Union Executive Committee achieved important results: adjusting the minimum wage to be 12.4% higher than regional regulations, and at the same time agreeing to apply the regional wage level II for the enterprise in Duy Xuyen.
This content is included in the Collective Labor Agreement and the 2026 salary scale of the Company.
For workers is also for the company to develop
That is the consistent motto in the activities of Mr. Le Hoan Giang - Chairman of the Trade Union of Sedo Vinako Co., Ltd. Promoting the role of a trade union leader, Mr. Le Hoan Giang always receives the trust of the company's Board of Directors and all employees.
Every year, he proactively coordinates to organize dialogues at enterprises, deploys the Workers' Conference in accordance with regulations; and actively negotiates and signs collective labor agreements with many practical terms that are more beneficial to workers with the Trade Union Executive Committee.
Specifically, outstanding contents have been achieved such as: annual salary increases for all employees from 3-5%; applying attendance bonuses of 400,000 VND/person/month; increasing seniority allowances for employees working for 10 years from 300,000 VND to 400,000 VND/person/month; adjusting to increase the unit price of meals by 11%/person/meal; supporting gasoline 100,000 VND/person/month; salary bonus for the 13th month equivalent to 1.25 months' salary.
In addition, the company also implements a 24-hour occupational accident insurance regime right from the first working day; increasing the level of difficulty allowance from 20,000 VND to 3,000,000 VND/person; paying attention to improving the working environment annually.
In particular, it has invested in building separate toilet areas for pregnant female workers, and at the same time implemented many policies to care for female workers, sick workers, and those with young children; organized gift giving on holidays, Tet, Mid-Autumn Festival... contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of union members and workers.
The above efforts have brought practical benefits to more than 5,000 union members with a total value of about 23 billion VND per year, thereby affirming the role of representing, caring for and protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of the trade union organization, contributing to building harmonious, stable and progressive labor relations at enterprises.
Hopefully, after being honored by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the 2 bright examples of grassroots Trade Union Chairmen of Da Nang will continue to promote their capacity and inspire more outstanding trade union officials in dialogue and collective bargaining in the city.
