Spreading responsibility and sharing
Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Linh - Chairwoman of the Da Nang City Labor Federation - said that one of the important requirements of Trade Union activities in the new context is to expand the space of solidarity. Solidarity should not only stop within the scope of businesses but also spread from workplaces to boarding houses, families, residential areas and communities.
A typical example of this is the implementation of Resolution No. 02-NQ/TU dated July 29, 2025 of the Executive Committee of the Da Nang City Party Committee on the policy of twinning between wards and communes to support each other in comprehensive development and improve people's lives, the Da Nang City Labor Federation has organized twinning with the mountainous commune of Phuoc Tra.
In the twinning program, the Da Nang Trade Union launched officials, union members, workers, civil servants and philanthropists to support the construction of 10 Great Solidarity houses in Phuoc Tra commune with a total amount of 1.25 billion VND. Up to now, 10 houses have been inaugurated and handed over to the people, showing the spirit of solidarity, responsibility and sharing of the Trade Union organization with the community.
Gratitude, humanitarian, and charitable activities are also being concerned. Da Nang City Labor Federation mobilized 38 units to support 44 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, with a minimum support level of 1,000,000 VND/mother/month; mobilized union members and workers to actively participate in voluntary blood donation with more than 1,200 units of blood, contributing to spreading noble gestures and responsibility to the community.
Expanding Trade Union activities associated with the community is a way to build trust and increase the attachment of workers to the organization. Through building houses, supporting Vietnamese Heroic Mothers or donating blood to save people, the spirit of solidarity is expressed through specific actions" - Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Linh said.
Support points in boarding houses
The "Self-managed Workers' Group in Boarding Houses" model that the Da Nang City Labor Federation has been implementing for many years is also a form of expanding Trade Union activities associated with the community.
Da Nang city currently has 80 self-managed worker groups in boarding houses with nearly 12,000 workers. This is a place where people far from home meet, share information, and support each other when facing difficulties; together comply with the law, maintain security and order, and build a cultural life.
Ms. Nguyen Thi My Linh, a female worker living at the "Self-managed Workers' Group in the boarding house area" in Hoa Khanh shared: "Previously, after work, when returning to the rented room, everyone knew their room. Since there is a self-managed group, workers know and care about each other more. When someone is sick or encounters difficulties, everyone is ready to help. We are also reminded about fire prevention and security, so we feel more secure when living far from home.
The "Worker Self-Management Group for Boarding Houses" model also creates a miniature community right at the place of residence. From here, the Trade Union has more channels to grasp thoughts, detect early difficulties and convey policies to workers. The government and functional forces also have focal points to coordinate in legal propaganda, ensuring security and fire prevention and fighting safety.
The Trade Union organizations of communes and wards have recently also implemented many very good models such as: "Trade Union Hands - A Shelter of Love", "Doctors accompany union members and workers", "Quick Response Team", "Wings for Dreams - For the Future of Children of Union Members and Workers"... creating an increasingly widespread care network.
“Expanding the Trade Union's arms does not obscure the function of representing workers. On the contrary, it is a way for that function to be implemented more practically and sustainably” - Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Linh said.
