Trade unions accompany, businesses gradually stabilize production after storms

Mai Dung - Đoàn Hưng |

After many days of focusing on overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3, up to now, most businesses in Hai Phong and Quang Ninh have stabilized production again.

Most businesses are back in operation.

On the morning of September 12, speaking with Lao Dong, a representative of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Trade Union said that the unit had initial statistics on the damage to businesses in industrial parks and economic zones in the area. Accordingly, 181 businesses in industrial parks were damaged by the storm, with estimated damage of thousands of billions of VND.

However, to date, most businesses have resumed operations, ensuring jobs for more than 85,000 workers. Some are still producing while dealing with the aftermath. A few businesses that suffered heavy losses are still temporarily laying off workers while they wait to deal with the aftermath.

Including Chee Yuen Company, HMT Company, Horn Company, LianYue, Phihong Company, Raylink... (An Duong Industrial Park); G Tech Technology Company (Do Son Industrial Park), Bucheon Company, Thong Nhat Company (Dinh Vu Cat Hai Industrial Park), Akita Company, Arai, Toyota Boshoku (Hai Phong Japan Industrial Park)...

In Vinh Bao district, by the morning of September 12, 12 enterprises had electricity to resume production with more than 3,500 workers such as Manh Cuong Garment Company, Sunmax Company, Sao Mai Company, Well Mart Swany...

A representative of the Vinh Bao District Labor Federation said: Due to storm No. 3, more than 10 businesses were severely affected, of which 4 businesses suffered the most damage, in some places up to tens of billions of VND. Some businesses have not resumed operations because they are located in areas that have not been supplied with electricity or the factories have not been repaired to connect the power lines.

According to incomplete statistics from the Quang Ninh Provincial Federation of Labor, more than 90% of enterprises have returned to operation. In industrial zones, more than 40,000 workers have returned to work. Some enterprises, due to major damage to assets and factories, are continuing to implement solutions to restore operations as soon as possible.

Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group also said that by 8:00 p.m. on September 11, 15/17 coal industry units had grid electricity to serve production. After having electricity, the units resumed production. On September 12, Nui Beo Coal Company and Ha Lam Coal Company will be supplied with grid electricity. Thus, all mines of Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group will resume normal production on September 12.

Trade unions accompany businesses to overcome consequences after storm

To encourage businesses to quickly overcome the consequences and resume production, from September 9 to now, the Hai Phong City Labor Federation has organized many delegations to visit and provide financial support to businesses that suffered heavy damage due to storm No. 3.

Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc - Permanent Vice President of Hai Phong City Labor Federation - said: "According to the survey, up to now, the city has more than 500 businesses damaged by storm No. 3, the lowest damage is from 500 million VND, the highest is up to hundreds of billions of VND. By September 12, Hai Phong City Labor Federation has provided support to more than 50 businesses (each business receives 10 million VND) and will continue to support businesses next week. The total number of businesses supported by the City Labor Federation is expected to be 100 units."

In addition, the Trade Unions at all levels are also compiling the number of workers who have to temporarily stop working due to factory damage to propose to the Labor Federation to support and ensure stable income during the days without work. In the Hai Phong Economic Zone Trade Union alone, there are nearly 17,000 workers temporarily stopped working for less than 14 days, nearly 3,500 workers have been off work for 14 days or more waiting for the business to remedy the consequences.

In Quang Ninh, the Trade Unions at all levels have reviewed and initially counted about 800 families of workers and laborers whose houses collapsed or had their roofs blown off... including many workers and laborers in difficult circumstances. The Quang Ninh Provincial Federation of Labor has directed the Trade Unions at all levels to review, visit and promptly encourage the families of workers affected by the storm, and mobilize businesses to promptly support the families of workers.

Ms. Bui Thi Uyen (56 years old, a worker at Van Don Urban Environment Company) was moved: “Storm No. 3 caused the roof of my family's level 4 house to be blown off and the ceiling to collapse. However, as an environmental worker, I still joined my colleagues in the peak cleaning campaign. I am very grateful for receiving the gift from the Quang Ninh Provincial Federation of Labor. This is a timely source of encouragement for me and my family to stabilize our lives and actively work and produce.”
