Serving the needs of union members
On May 30, the Trade Union of Hoa Khanh Ward, Da Nang, in coordination with Da Nang Lung Hospital, organized a key program called "Green Lung" - Completely free examination and screening of lung and respiratory diseases for more than 200 union members and workers.
This is an activity to practically respond to Workers' Month 2026 and emulate to achieve achievements to celebrate the 14th Vietnam Trade Union Congress, term 2026 – 2031, and at the same time strongly spread the message of World No Tobacco Day May 31.
Mr. Tra Thanh Quang - Chairman of Hoa Khanh Ward Trade Union said: This program was born to practically serve the needs of union members. And the special highlight of this year's "Green Lung" program is the shift in the operating thinking of the Executive Committee of Hoa Khanh Ward Trade Union, from "serving what the organization has" to "practically serving the needs of union members".
More importantly, the program aims to raise awareness of proactive health protection and comprehensive support packages for workers, especially those who directly produce in closed environments or are exposed to smoke and dust. Early screening helps union members proactively detect diseases in time before symptoms worsen, thereby firmly protecting their own "green lungs".
And most importantly, according to Mr. Tra Thanh Quang - Chairman of Hoa Khanh Ward Trade Union, it is aimed at gradually creating a habit of proactive health check-ups and screenings for union members and workers.
The general psychology of union members and workers is that they are very reluctant to go for periodic health check-ups and screenings, only when they are really sick do they go to the hospital, and in many cases when the disease is detected, it is too late. Therefore, through this program, the Trade Union hopes to gradually create habits for them" - Mr. Quang said.
Completely free medical examination
Also according to Mr. Tra Thanh Quang, at the program, each worker is entitled to services including: respiratory screening package (worth 360,000 VND/person); free specialized respiratory clinical examination, digital lung X-ray (DR), respiratory function exploration (respiratory measurement) to diagnose early chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchial asthma and Mantoux injection to diagnose latent tuberculosis.
In-depth test package: For cases where screening detects pathology that needs treatment, employees will be free of charge to perform the Xpert test (worth 720,500 VND) for accurate diagnosis without incurring additional costs.
In order to strengthen resistance for workers, from the joint funding of Hoa Khanh Ward Trade Union and Da Nang Lung Hospital, the program supports 150,000 VND/person for officials and union members who need to get vaccinated against infectious diseases such as seasonal flu, pneumococcus, zona, hepatitis B, dengue fever...
In particular, due to the medical characteristics of the Mantoux injection technique for diagnosing latent tuberculosis, it takes 48 to 72 hours for a clear reaction, and the medical care procedure will not stop on May 30.
In the first two days of next week, union members and workers will continue to go to Da Nang Lung Hospital to be directly read the results of Mantoux injections by specialist doctors.
Here, workers will be explained in detail about their personal health status, nutritional advice, exercise, and especially detailed instructions on how to use standard protective equipment to protect the respiratory system during work. All examination results will be stored in records and returned to union members for convenient long-term health monitoring.
