Historic floods affect nearly 17,400 union members
At An Hung Joint Stock Company (Dak Lak), the unit suffered heavy damage due to floods. Here, more than 2,000 workers are in difficult situations.
Mr. Phan Dinh Hong, Chairman of the company's grassroots trade union, said that according to initial statistics, 1 union member died, at least more than 1,000 workers had their houses deeply flooded, their property was severely damaged, and they could not be reproduced.
On the third day after the flood, Ms. Le Thi Dieu and Mr. Nguyen Quoc Toan sat down to pick up the damaged items on the rubble that used to be the peaceful home of a family of 5. In addition, Ms. Dieu's younger brother's house is also a worker - living with his elderly mother and 2 young children - leaving only a wall.
In the same situation, in Dien Dien commune, Khanh Hoa province, the house of Ms. Phan Thi Kim Hong, a union member of the Trade Union of Production and Trading Company Limited H.T.H, only has a wooden frame. From the night of November 19 to November 21, Ms. Hong and her daughter had to stay on the roof. Ms. Hong shared: "The water is too big, this area is low, the water flows strongly, rescue cannot get in, so we just try to stick with it. When the water receded, the house only had the roof and a wooden frame to support it.
According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Hoa, Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor, preliminary statistics as of November 24, the historic flood affected nearly 17,400 union members in the province.
Trade unions support and support workers to stand up after the flood
In the communes and wards in the East of Dak Lak province, Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Huyen, Vice President of the Provincial Federation of Labor, said that the unit has quickly coordinated with the Provincial Fatherland Front Agency to coordinate the receipt of food and necessities to support workers and people in flooded areas. Ms. Huyen shared: Dak Lak suffered a historic flood of 50 years. Many union officials here have deeply flooded their houses, but when the water recedes, they all put their own work aside to support the severely damaged locations, closely grasp the damage situation of the grassroots unions, union members, and workers, in order to provide timely and fastest support possible".
Directly present in the two provinces that suffered heavy damage in the historic flood, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Huynh Thanh Xuan could not help but feel sad: "The damage is so great, please help your union members after the flood".
Not only did the representative of the trade union organization give 2 billion VND to the localities, the leaders of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor also connected so that the trade union systems of provinces such as Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, Thanh Hoa, Da Nang could join hands to help Khanh Hoa and Dak Lak overcome the extremely difficult period.
Mr. Huynh Thanh Xuan, on behalf of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, presented 2 million VND in cash to 30 workers of An Hung Company whose houses were deeply flooded and whose assets were damaged. He also personally presented warm coats and blankets donated by the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund to workers and their children.
For families of union members whose houses collapsed, Mr. Huynh Thanh Xuan suggested that the grassroots trade unions and the Labor Federations of the two provinces urgently guide the dossier and consider supporting the construction of "Union Shelter" for union members. He emphasized: "Do not leave any workers or union members behind. The grassroots trade unions and the provincial Labor Federation must pay great attention and create conditions to implement housing support for union members after the flood as quickly as possible, including milk and repair, new construction, etc.
