Bustling Trade Union Tet Market
On the last afternoon of the year, when workers finish their shifts at Tam Thang Industrial Park (Ban Thach ward, Da Nang), the Trade Union Tet fair is bustling like a spring appointment. In many people's hands is a list of things to buy before Tet: rice, cooking oil, fish sauce, candies for children... Items that seem small but are expenses that make many families "restless" every time December comes.
Ms. Nguyen Anh Thu (32 years old, garment worker, from Thanh Hoa) rents a room near an industrial park, and her two young children are sent to a boarding house to be looked after by someone during overtime. "At the end of the year, there is a lot of work but also a lot of expenses. Room bills, electricity and water bills, milk bills for children... If there is no surplus for Tet, I am very worried," she said, then carefully put 5 shopping vouchers (100,000 VND/voucher) in her pocket as if afraid of losing them. For her, just 100,000 VND to buy the right necessities also reduces a "measureable" meal.
Ms. Thu's story is not unique. In industrial parks, some people have just paid off hospital fees, some are burdened with tuition fees for their children, and some are reluctant to go home because the bus ticket for the whole family is a large sum. Tet is therefore not only joy, but also worry.
The 2026 Trade Union Tet Market in Tam Thang is one of the 4 Tet market locations organized by the City Labor Federation (LĐLĐ), so that workers in all industrial parks have the opportunity to enjoy it. In Tam Thang alone, the Trade Union organization has issued 15,000 shopping vouchers for union members and workers to shop at 30 booths. The atmosphere of the market is also vibrant due to the lucky draw program...
Businesses join hands
This Tet holiday, the Da Nang City Labor Federation issued more than 65,000 shopping vouchers (total value of more than 6.5 billion VND) for union members and workers to buy essential goods. Along with that are 24,000 Tet gifts (each gift worth 1 million VND, total 24 billion VND) for low-income workers, labor accidents, critical illnesses, affected by natural disasters, job loss - job reduction, salary arrears... The City Labor Federation also supported nearly 5,000 bus tickets and nearly 2,000 train tickets for union members and relatives to return to their hometowns for Tet.
Another highlight is taking care of workers living in rented rooms with few conditions to reunite. Da Nang Trade Union provides 1,000 gifts (1 million VND in cash/gift) for workers in self-managed worker groups in boarding houses - prioritizing single female workers raising young children, people in difficult circumstances who do not have the conditions to return to their hometowns.
According to Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Linh - Chairwoman of Da Nang City Labor Federation, Tet care activities are organized diversely and flexibly, focusing on the most risky subjects: prolonged difficulties, impacts of natural disasters, serious illnesses, job loss...
At the same time, the trade union mobilizes the attention of employers to jointly care for, create motivation and trust for employees to be attached to the enterprise and the Trade Union organization for a long time.
At units and businesses, many grassroots trade unions also increased the level of care to reduce workers' hardships. Typical examples include Sedo Vinako Co., Ltd. in Duy Xuyen, with more than 5,000 union members, the Trade Union coordinates with businesses to maintain salaries, bonuses, and welfare; periodic health checks; mobilized more than 568 million VND on the spot to support workers in difficult circumstances and critical illnesses; care for sickness, maternity, funerals... more than 507 million VND. For the Binh Ngo Tet holiday 2026 alone, the Trade Union issued 2 gift drives with a total value of nearly 2 billion VND.
When receiving the attention of the company and the trade union, employees are very happy," Ms. Mai Thu Thao, a worker at Sedo Vinako Co., Ltd. excitedly said.
