Workers choose to return to their hometowns to rest during the holiday of September 30th

For many people, the 30.4-1.5 holiday is an opportunity to travel with their family. However, for many workers, this is the time to rest at home and gather with relatives after hard working days.

Holidays - a time to rest with family

Ms. Dinh Thi Xuan (worker at Ha Bac Garment Company, Bac Giang province) said that with 2 days off during the upcoming 30.4-1.5 holiday, she will spend this time at home with her two children.

Ms. Xuan is a single mother raising two children. Her eldest child has kidney cancer, although the disease is stable, he has to be hospitalized for a check-up every 3 months. Each time like that costs about 2 million VND. All of this female worker's attention is to her children, especially the older children.

Recently, a friend invited me to take the children out and climb mountains during the upcoming holidays. When I asked him, he said he was tired so he didn't want to go far. I want to take my children wherever I go; if they don't want to go, I don't want to go. I decided that my parents and I would stay at home together and not go anywhere else" - the female worker said.

When she is away from home during the holidays, she has time and conditions to cook delicious dishes to compensate for her children during normal days. Ms. Xuan and her child are living in a private house. To build this house, she had to borrow 200 million VND from relatives and borrow from outside. Each month, she has to pay 900,000 VND in interest.

No conditions to travel

Similar to Ms. Xuan, Ms. Le Minh Hue (a worker at Crystal Martin Company, Bac Giang province) does not plan to travel far with her family. Ms. Hue is married and has children in Thai Nguyen. Due to difficult family economic conditions, her husband and children stayed in the countryside, while she went to Bac Giang alone to rent a room to work as a worker to make a living.

Every weekend, she rides a motorbike back to her hometown to visit her husband and children. Each time I go home, it takes about 2.5 hours. "I don't take a car back to my hometown because that way, the cost will be higher, I can't take the initiative in traveling. Taking a motorbike reduces costs and I can take the initiative in travel time" - Ms. Hue explained.

Like many other worker families, she and her children have not had the opportunity to travel for a long time. "Touring will be very expensive. The whole family has to spend at least ten million VND to travel far away. That amount of money can be used for many other things in the family" - Ms. Hue said.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh (worker at Thang Long Industrial Park, Hanoi) said that during the upcoming holiday season, her whole family will rent a car to return to their hometown in Thai Nguyen, "not traveling far because of tight spending".

Ms. Hanh and her husband are both workers, earning a total of about 20 million VND/month. With this amount of money, she always has to calculate her spending reasonably, avoiding unnecessary expenses. "Coming back to my hometown is an opportunity for my wife and I to rest completely and "recharge" our energy. This is also an opportunity for children to be close to their grandparents and relatives even though they have to be away from home all year" - the female worker shared.

According to a survey by reporters, many workers in industrial parks choose to go home to rest during the 30.4-14.5 holiday. Because they only have 2 days off, there should be cases where they stay at the boarding house to rest, or still take advantage of overtime to earn a higher income than normal (if the company organizes overtime).

According to the provisions of the 2019 Labor Code, employees are entitled to take a day off work and receive full pay on Victory Day: 1 day (April 30th); International Labor Day: 1 day (May 1st).
