These days, Ms. Nguyen Thi Toan (50 years old) - a leather shoe worker in Nam Dinh has been working overtime until 7:30 p.m. Working daytime all week, she was asked to work overtime on Sundays to keep up with production progress.
Currently, Ms. Toan is working as a shoe soles worker, working two weeks a day and two nights a week. On average, after deducting the lunch break and half-hour break, female workers have to work more than 10 hours/day.
With the request to work overtime normally, Ms. Toan has no opinion. However, on Sunday, female workers are quite hesitant and consider carefully before deciding because the weekend is a day to rest.
Regarding her income from overtime, the female worker said that overtime is more than 2 hours a day, and her monthly income increases by nearly 2.5 million VND. Every Sunday at work, I earn more than 700,000 VND. However, Ms. Toan was not interested in going to work on this day.
"Every month I only try to work one Sunday, I am 50 years old so my health is still a top priority" - Ms. Toan said.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Loan (30 years old) - a garment worker in Vinh Phuc said that the company normally works until 6pm. However, from April 25, the Director announced that workers would work overtime until 7pm, which will last for 2 months.

Ms. Loan said that the partner urged the company to ship goods early in July instead of August as originally planned. In addition to the difficult recruitment, the company has required overtime workers to work at least 1 hour/day to keep up with the schedule.
Although there is a 30-minute break between shifts at 5pm, the female worker only takes a 15-minute snack and starts working right away. Ms. Loan told herself that she would try to overcome this period to accompany the company and ensure her salary.
When staying overtime, the female worker's daily activities also changed. In the past, when she returned home at 6:15 p.m., she would cook and clean for her children. After work, when she gets home after 7pm, Ms. Loan has to rely on her grandparents for cleaning and feeding her children.
Regarding the amount of overtime pay per month, Ms. Loan estimated to earn nearly 1 million VND for additional output and 450,000 VND for dinner support. To compensate for her children, Ms. Loan often prioritizes using this money to buy food, milk or take her children out.
Although she has extra salary for overtime, Ms. Loan said that her child is still young, so she wants to spend more time with her child.Because the company only requires 2 more months of work, until now, she is still working hard to keep up with the schedule.
