Demand for seasonal labor recruitment increases
Running a fashion store on Nguyen Trai Street (Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City), Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam has started recruiting seasonal workers for the end of the year and the Lunar New Year. The reason is that at this time, consumer purchasing power is starting to increase slightly, plus the store is importing a large quantity of goods to meet the peak shopping season at the end of the year and Tet.
With an expected recruitment of 7 people for the main store and 1 branch, Mr. Tam said that seasonal employees will only work on Saturdays and Sundays. These are the days when goods are imported to the store and when the number of customers is the highest during the week. For jobs such as arranging clothes, welcoming and supporting customers, seasonal workers will be paid 25,000 VND/hour, 7,000 VND/hour higher than official employees.
Although there are still nearly 2 months until Tet, Ms. Le Thi Hong Diem - owner of a beauty salon in O Mon district, Can Tho city - has received many pre-bookings from customers, mainly on weekends. Ms. Diem said that many customers are afraid of crowds so they often go early. For this reason, she has to recruit 3-4 seasonal workers for these days with a salary of 300,000 VND/person/day.
“The closer it gets to Tet, the harder it is to recruit seasonal workers because demand increases and I need relatively skilled workers to best serve customers and ensure business reputation. If these workers agree to work from the 25th of Tet to New Year’s Eve, the salary will be even higher and there will be an additional bonus for diligence,” Ms. Diem shared.
Earn extra income
With the increasing demand for recruitment and the desire to earn extra income as Tet approaches, Ms. Pham Huynh Nhu - a worker at Tra Noc Industrial Park (Can Tho City) - is looking for a suitable seasonal job. "When Tet comes, in addition to the cost of traveling back to the hometown, there are many other things to worry about such as buying furniture for the family, children, and relatives on both sides, so my husband and I plan to find seasonal jobs from now on" - the female worker said.
According to Ms. Nhu, many restaurants and fashion stores have posted signs recruiting seasonal workers. Working on weekend evenings is also quite suitable for the working hours of female workers. If the salary is attractive, Ms. Nhu and her husband will work until the 28th of Tet before returning home. Because they have motorbikes, this is not a problem for female workers.
These days, Ms. Pham Thien Nghi - a saleswoman (Can Tho City) - has taken on a seasonal job at a fashion store on Nguyen Trai Street (Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City). Ms. Nghi said that because she urgently needed people, and she expressed her desire to work until Tet, the store owner allowed her to rotate shifts to maintain her work schedule between the two places.
Although she only works 3 days a week, Ms. Nghi is paid up to 25,000 VND/hour. This is only the current seasonal salary. If she works from the 26th of Tet onwards, this amount will be doubled and a bonus will be added: "My house is not far from the center of Can Tho City, so this year I plan to work during Tet and then go home to reunite with my family after work. That way, I will have more income, making my family's Tet holiday more complete" - Ms. Nghi expressed.
