Workers worry about job loss risk due to technology
In recent years, businesses applying machinery and automation to production lines has caused many workers to worry. Ms. Le Thi Hai Chau (29/3 Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company) shared: "The introduction of robots and AI into production lines is directly threatening the jobs of unskilled workers. Many workers are still limited in technological skills, and the ability to change careers is not high, so they are easily in a passive position.
Mr. Cao My Thuat (Thuyen Phuoc Seafood and Trading Joint Stock Company) proposed that the city should have retraining programs to support career change so that workers do not lag behind. He also proposed establishing an "Initiative Support Group" at enterprises to advise and help workers complete technical improvement ideas, avoiding wasting initiatives or just because of application barriers.
According to Mr. Thuat, from the reality of working at factories and workshops, there are many workers who have practical initiatives and technical improvements, bringing great efficiency and value to businesses. However, due to limitations in expressing ideas, difficulties in completing dossiers, or psychological hesitation when proposing to superiors; besides, some businesses are also concerned about technology security, so many initiatives have been missed. This not only disadvantages workers but also makes businesses lose opportunities to improve and enhance production efficiency.
Completing policies to support career change and entrepreneurship
Mr. Nguyen Qui Quy, Deputy Director of Da Nang City Department of Home Affairs, said that the city has issued specific mechanisms to support workers to adapt to new markets. For workers directly affected by business restructuring or technology changes, automation, the city will support vocational conversion training costs with a maximum level of 1.5 million VND/person/month. This policy aims to help workers update skills, meet the requirements of operating machinery and new technologies, thereby avoiding the risk of being eliminated from the production line.
In addition to training, the city focuses on preferential loan packages to create jobs on the spot. Workers who need to start a business or create their own jobs can access loans from the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies with a maximum limit of 200 million VND/person. Mr. Nguyen Qui Quy affirmed that this is a direct solution to help workers be proactive in resources, limit the risk of unemployment and increase income.
Regarding the need to work abroad, Mr. Quy added that the Department of Home Affairs is advising the City People's Committee to develop a specialized resolution. This resolution focuses on two solutions: reducing loan interest rates for workers leaving the country and increasing training cost support, creating conditions for workers to access international markets at the lowest cost.
Representatives of the Department of Home Affairs emphasized that these policies are built on the basis of listening to the thoughts of workers. Da Nang not only encourages businesses to retrain workers' skills but also creates a legal corridor for workers to feel secure working in a new environment. In addition, the city will also coordinate with trade union organizations to form "Initiative Support Groups" at the grassroots level, in order to encourage innovation, help workers improve productivity and protect legitimate rights from their creative solutions.
